About GramiGrants
Our Organization
GramiGrants is a non-profit dedicated to promoting the inclusion of elderly immigrants in public settings, and helping them socialize confidently without a language barrier through programs that empower the senior immigrants through events that integrate English learning with cultural activities.
Our Mission
GramiGrants strive to create a society that helps senior immigrants express themselves freely in any social settings, where it be a professional work environment, a casual gathering with other seniors, or building personal relationships that make their lives more enjoyable. Our mission also includes the senior immigrants feel a sense of belonging away from their own country and share their cultures with intergenerational, inter-culture, and intracultural communications. We hope that one day all senior immigrants can voice their opinions without being disregarded, and without a language barrier.
Our
Story
How Did GramiGrants Start?
The GramiGrants mission began an Asian American immigrant high school student who aimed to enhance her grandmother's social and work life in the U.S., similar to her experiences in Korea.
Over three years of observing her grandmother, she recognized that the language barrier was isolating her from essential social interactions. She also realized that the voices of senior immigrants often went unheard. In search of opportunities for her grandmother to make friends or learn English, she found that options were either costly, hard to access, or had specific requirements.
Consequently, she founded GramiGrants, an organization dedicated to helping senior immigrants fully enjoy their lives in the U.S. without these challenges.
